“That was regrettable. That was essentially an exchange with our fans out in front of us,” Jones stated during a radio appearance. “There was a swarm of Dallas supporters—not Jets fans, our fans. The whole venue was filled with enthusiasm for the Cowboys.”
He further emphasized that the gesture was completely accidental, occurring amid the excitement following the team’s final touchdown. “I simply put up the incorrect digit,” he remarked. “It was inadvertently done. I’m not kidding. Should you call it unplanned, you can. However, it got resolved pretty quick.”

This is not the first time an league proprietor has been fined for inappropriate behavior. Previous cases include:
- Carolina Panthers owner David Tepper was fined $300,000 for throwing a drink at spectators in early 2024.
