Lando Norris Leads Oscar Piastri in Sao Paulo Practice Session
Lando Norris has beaten his teammate at all of the previous five grands prix.
Lando Norris narrowly beat team-mate and championship contender the Australian for the fastest time in the closing stages of practice at the Brazilian Grand Prix.
Norris, who seized the points lead from Piastri by just one point after winning in Mexico City two weeks ago, topped the Australian by a mere 0.023s.
Until that point, Oscar Piastri had been the quickest of the McLaren pair during the running before the sprint shootout due at the evening session.
The Red Bull star, the other racer in the points battle, trailing 36 points behind Norris, was classified in 17th place as his Red Bull team opted for a unique setup.
His teammate the Japanese driver was the only driver to have an incident, though minor, when he spun at corner four soon after starting.
Tsunoda slid over the curbs on exit before rotating through the gravel trap, and was blessed to escape with just a light touch of the fence.
Ferrari's the seven-time champion also had a spin, at the final moments of the practice, spinning around through the fast downhill Mergulho turn approaching the last turn on to the main straight.
The seven-time champion finished practice in 19th, just behind teammate Charles Leclerc.
Norris and Piastri were well clear of the other competitors, with the German's Sauber third fastest, over half a second off Piastri's pace.
The Aston Martin of the Spanish driver was fourth fastest, with Sauber's Bortoleto in front of Mercedes' George Russell and Alpine's Gasly and Williams' Sainz.
