It's tough for the Australian squad to break new ground.

The greatest achievements have long been mastered.

We're talking about the squad that has won seven Cricket World Cups, plus an additional six T20 titles, and earlier maintained over three years without defeat in 50-over cricket.

The remaining milestones, the ones sought by the achievement hunters, are what's still available for a side that has achieved everything.

That it took up to Sunday's success by three wickets over India for them to achieve their initial ODI chase over 300, taking back their record for the biggest in the women's 50-over format, is, honestly, a tribute to the bowling attack that have represented Australia over the last half-century.

It is hard for their hitters to maintain a record if never given the chance.

Finally, the consequence of Australia allowing 330 runs was leader Alyssa Healy being given an opportunity to create her latest masterpiece.

Then best known as the 19-year-old niece of famous ex Aussie wicketkeeper Ian, she first played in 2010 after Australia failed to win either of the T20 or ODI World Cups conducted earlier and has experienced everything through 15 successful years since.

A T20 championship victory came three months after her debut and seven international trophies have come from 10 attempts across formats.

The gritty keeper was also there in Derby in 2017 when a last-four loss by India momentarily interrupted the winning streak.

That loss "pushed us to reconsider our benchmarks," Healy stated recently.

At the subsequent ODI World Cup in New Zealand, Healy scored 170 against England in the championship match and was declared player of the series. She guaranteed her country would not fall short again.

If this latest epic knock surpassed that earlier display can be debated.

Many contend the case for championship match pressure. Others can counter with the test that comes when confronting a historic chase and an enthusiastic Indian fanbase of 20,000.

What's clear is this century was far harder to anticipate.

The New Zealand onslaught in 2022 occurred when she topped the run-scoring charts, but this innings followed six innings in India over the past few weeks in which she had not exceeded 30 runs.

"If you've been watching me in training, it has been a challenging time because I feel like my form was missing whatsoever," stated Healy.

"However when you enter the playing area, your competitive instincts kick in and you completely engage with the match."

Healy's fighting spirit has always been her key asset - and a priceless quality in taking over from famous previous leader Meg Lanning.

She was challenged by India's rising star Kranti Gaud in recent ODI series, out to the 22-year-old seamer in every game, but on this occasion it simply offered Healy's motivation.

A single came off Gaud's first delivery and after that Healy was on her way.

"An opportunity to play and engage in competition with her and merely enjoy the moment in that regard, sort of got me going," said Healy.

She reached fifty in 35 deliveries - her fastest at a World Cup - and her century in 84 as she flogged anything short, striking 21 boundaries and three sixes.

When she was out the team required another 66 at one run per ball - a manageable total now requiring a leisurely stroll.

"Chasing 330 runs is unfamiliar ground so I'm pleased we have the confidence to achieve that now," continued Healy.

"Hopefully we don't have to do it another time but, if we do, we know we can succeed."

That comment will be the last competing nations at this World Cup need to hear.

During the last week a belief they will succeed regardless of circumstances has become more firm - this triumph following victory over Pakistan by 107 runs despite sitting at 76-7 at one stage.

Next Australia play Bangladesh before a meeting with traditional opponents England in Indore in ten days, by which point a semi-final place may likely be confirmed.

During that phase they left last year's T20 World Cup in an unexpected loss by South Africa - a match Healy was absent due to torn tissue in her foot as she led her country for the inaugural occasion at a significant event.

So strong is her resolve, she afterwards commented she wanted to have participated with the discomfort.

However although she later admitted those physical issues have pushed back plans to retire, this World Cup is likely to be her last as captain in 50-over cricket and she is still to achieve a world championship as leader.

Success in India would lead her to the peak of her ultimate challenge.
